Redskins will change their controversial name and logo

It’s official. The Washington Redskins are getting a much-needed makeover. Following weeks of speculation, the franchise announced that they will change both their nickname and logo prior to the 2020 NFL season.

The Redskins name and logo has been heavily criticized the past couple of years due to the fact it is considered by many to be an ethnic slur directed towards the native american community.

Initially owner Daniel Snyder was opposed to making any change to the team’s branding, but in light of the George Floyd protests, and increased pressure from major sponsors (including FedEx) to make the change, he had a change of heart.

He will be working alongside new head coach Ron Rivera “to develop a new name and design approach that will enhance the standing of our proud, tradition rich franchise and inspire our sponsors, fans and community for the next 100 years”

Rumors suggest that the Warriors is favored to be their new nickname. No word yet on the logo.
