All-Star shortstop Troy Tulowitzki has decided to hang up his cleats.

Largely due to lingering leg and calf injuries that have plagued him over the past few seasons, the 34-year old shortstop announced his retirement via the New York Yankees on Thursday afternoon.

“For as long as I can remember, my dream was to compete at the highest level as a Major League Baseball player … to wear a big league uniform and play hard for my teammates and the fans. I will forever be grateful for every day that I’ve had to live out my dream. It has been an absolute honor.” said Tulowitzki in a statement

“I will always look back with tremendous gratitude for having the privilege of playing as long as I did. There is no way to truly express my gratitude to the fans of Colorado, Toronto and New York. They always made my family and I feel so welcome.”

Tulowitzki posted a .290 batting average, .361 on-base percentage, .856 OPS, 225 homers and 780 RBI over 13 combined seasons and 1291 regular season games with the Colorado Rockies, Toronto Blue Jays and Yankees.

He ends his career as a five-time MLB All-Star, two-time Silver Slugger Award winner, two- time Gold Glove Award winner and with the record for career fielding percentage as a shortstop at .985.
