The Boston Red Sox are more than happy with their overachieving manager, and are rewarding him by locking him in with the franchise for another couple seasons.

The team announced on Monday that they have exercised the club option on Alex Cora’s contract, which guarantees that he signed for the 2023 and 2024 MLB seasons.

“I am beyond grateful for this opportunity to manage the Red Sox,” said Cora.

“We experienced so many special moments as a team and as a city in 2021, but we still have unfinished business to take care of. I am excited about the current state of our organization and eager to continue my work with our front office, coaches, players, and everyone who makes this such a special place.”

The 46-year old, who was hired in 2018, has coached the Red Sox to a combined 284-202 regular season record over a span of three seasons with the franchise. He has also led them to a World Series title, and a separate trip to the ALCS this past year.

He was let go and missed the entire 2020 campaign after an invesigation confirmed he played a significant role in the Houston Astros cheating scandal during the 2017 season and playoffs. He was re-hired last offseason after the team finished dead last in the AL East with Ron Roenicke at the helm in 2020.
