Free agent starter Steven Matz has chosen his new team, and it looks like he is heading back to the National League.

The St. Louis Cardinals confirmed they have agreed to sign veteran lefty Steven Matz to a four-year, $44 million contract. The deal has a signing bonus and could reach as high as $48 million with all the incentives included.

The 30-year old had a career year with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2021, posting a 14-7 record with a 3.82 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, 144 strikeouts and 43 walks over a span of 29 starts and 150.2 innings pitched.

The Blue Jays also reportedly offered him a contract, but it was only a three-year deal worth an undisclosed amount of money.
