Buster Posey retires from baseball after 12 MLB seasons

San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey is riding off into the sunset.

The 34-year old is formally set to announce his retirement at a news conference this afternoon at Oracle Park.

Posey, who is essentially a shoe-in to make the Baseball Hall of Fame, has amassed a combined .302 batting average, .831 OPS, 158 homers and 729 RBI over a span of 1371 career regular season games, all with the Giants organization.

During his career, he was selected to seven MLB All-Star games, and a recipient of four Silver Slugger Awards, and two NL Comeback Player of the Year Awards, two Defensive Player of the Year Awards.

He also won the NL Rookie of the Year Award, Gold Glove Award, NL MVP, NL Batting title, and was a three-time World Series champion.
