The Toronto Blue Jays’ slim playoff hopes have been dealt a huge blow.

The team announced that shortstop Bo Bichette has been placed on the 10-day disabled list after sustaining a knee strain while stretching in between innings during Saturday’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays.

“He felt it right before he was going to hit…He was stretching and he felt it.” said Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo about Bichette’s injury.

The 22-year old was on an absolute tear prior to this unfortunate injury. He was on a nine-game hit streak, and has posted a .361 batting average, 1.063 OPS, five homers and 13 RBI in 14 games this season.

The Blue Jays sit 4th in the AL East with a 7-11 record.
