WATCH: Suzuki embarrasses Markstrom by scoring on him from behind the net

Montreal Canadiens forward Nick Suzuki and Calgary Flames goalie Jacob Markstrom had been chirping each other throughout Thursday game at the Bell Centre. Well it’s safe to say Suzuki came out on top by the end of the night.

Late in the third period, the Habs centre entered the offensive with the puck on Markstrom’s glove side. The Flames netminder felt like he was safe when the defenceman forced Suzuki behind the net, but Suzuki ended up using the element of surprise to his advantage. He picked the perfect time and the perfect angle to shoot the puck towards the crease, and it ended up bouncing off the back of Markstrom’s skate and into the net for what would be the game-winning goal.

The significance of this? Suzuki tried a similar type of play earlier in the period, which caught the attention of Markstrom and led to him taunting Suzuki for even attempting to score like that in the first place. As it turned out, Suzuki got the last laugh.
