Leafs acquire Alex Galchenyuk from Hurricanes

Veteran forward Alex Galchenyuk will now be on his third team in three days.

Just days after acquiring him from the Ottawa Senators, the Carolina Hurricanes have traded Galchenyuk to the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for AHL forward Egor Korshkov and defenceman David Warsofsky.

Galchenyuk was initially drafted 3rd overall by the Montreal Canadiens in 2012, and was supposed to be a key part of their young core. He even had an impressive 30 goal campaign in 2015/16. But since then, things have gone south and his career has taken a major nose dive.

In the past five-plus seasons, the 27-year old has scored just a combined 64 games and played for four different franchises.

The Leafs will likely stick him in the AHL with the Toronto Marlies since he cleared waivers, and he will not have to quarantine since he hadn’t left his residence in Ottawa since the trade.
