Well this was unexpected.

After one bad season, the New York Islanders have decided to part ways with their longtime head coach Barry Trotz. The move comes just 10 days after an end to a disappointing regular season where they finished out of the playoffs and 5th in the Metropolitan Division with a 37-35-10 record.

The 59-year old was initially hired as Islanders bench boss shortly after he won the Stanley Cup with the Washington Capitals back in June 2018.

Over a span of four seasons as Islanders head coach, Trotz posted a combined 152-102-34 record, and led the team to three postseason appearances and two trips to the Conference Finals.
