Bruins officially name Patrice Bergeron their new captain

The Boston Bruins have picked who is going to don the ‘C’ for them this upcoming season, and the decision should come as no surprise to anyone.

The team officially announced on Thursday that All-Star forward Patrice Bergeron has been named the 20th captain in franchise history.

“There is no doubt in my mind that Patrice is the natural successor to the Captain role, and he will represent this franchise very well. He has consistently and reliably contributed to this team’s advancement and has been an adept leader for many years, both on and off the ice. His tenure as Captain will be one of great success.” said Bruins Owner Jeremy Jacobs.

Bergeron, who succeeds Zdeno Chara after his 14-year run as team captain, was initially selected 45th overall in the 2003 NHL Draft and has spent his entire career with the Bruins franchise.

Throughout his career, the 35-year old has amassed 352 goals, 517 assists and a plus-201 rating over a span of 1089 career games and 16 seasons.

He has also been selected to two NHL All-Star games, is a four-time
Frank J. Selke Trophy winner, was a recipient of the King Clancy Memorial Trophy in 2013, and won a Stanley Cup in 2011.
