The NHL department of player safety is dropping the hammer on Brad Marchand!

The league has announced that they have suspended the Boston Bruins forward six games for roughing and high sticking Pittsburgh Penguins goalie Tristan Jarry during the third period of Tuesday night’s contest between the two teams.

While the length of punishment seems really harsh, the Player Safety department made it clear that his checkered history of dirty plays and suspensions played heavily into the decision.

“Players who repeatedly violate league playing rules will be severely punished for each new violation” said a Player Safety representative in a video explaining the suspension.

“Marchand has been suspended seven times, and fined five times previously.”

The 33-year old had already been suspended for three games earlier this season for slew footing Vancouver Canucks defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson.

This marks the eighth time in his career that he has been suspended, which surpasses Hockey Hall of Fame defenseman Chris Pronger for most suspensions in NHL history.
