Toronto FC are beginning to reshape their roster after a disappointing 2018 season.

The team announced that they have decided to pick up the options of seven players (defenders Ashtone Morgan, Drew Moor, Nick Hagglund and Julian Dunn, midfielders Jay Chapman, Ryan Telfer and Aidan Daniels, and goalkeeper Caleb Patterson-Sewell), but declined the options of a couple of players that helped them in their back-to-back trips to the MLS Cup Final in 2016 and 2017: Canadian forward Tosaint Ricketts and veteran goalkeeper Clint Irwin.

“We will continue to have discussions with the players on loan and whose options were not exercised and those out of contract. We want to also acknowledge Clint, Tosaint and Jason for their contributions to the club both on and off the field. They have played an instrumental part in building our club into one that competes for championships.” said Toronto FC GM Tim Bezbatchenko.

Ricketts, 31, initially signed with Toronto FC on July 20, 2016 following a stint with Turkish club Boluspor. In his time with ‘The Reds’, the Edmonton native combined to score 17 goals in 68 appearances.

Irwin, 29, also joined the club in 2016 after a three-year stint with the Colorado Rapids. Despite starting off on the right foot, injuries eventually took their toll on his effectiveness in net. He eventually lost the no.1 goalkeeper job to Alex Bono.

Despite hopes of winning it all once again, Toronto FC finished third last in the Eastern Conference with a 10-6-18 record to go a long with a -5 goal differential.
