The Kansas City Royals hope first baseman Eric Hosmer stays with the team for many years to come.

According to reports, the normally financially strict team made him a seven-year, $147 million contract offer. This narrowly edges the San Diego Padres alleged offer of $140 million over seven years.

The 28-year old, who has spent his entire seven-year career with the franchise, has posted a combined .284 batting average, .781 OPS, 127 homers and 566 RBI in 1048 career games. In 2017, he posted a career-best .318 average and .385 on-base percentage to go along with 25 homers and 94 RBI.

Throughout his time with the Royals, Hosmer has won four Gold Glove Awards, a Silver Slugger Award (2017), a World Series title (2015), and was named to the AL All-Star team for the first time in his career in 2016.
