As if this week hasn’t been hard enough for Tampa Bay Rays fans.

The team announced that their no.1 pitching prospect Brent Honeywell suffered a torn Ulnar Collateral Ligament in his right arm during batting practice on Thursday. According to reports, he will likely need Tommy John Surgery to repair the injury and will be sidelined for the entire 2018 season.

The 22-year old, who was selected by the Rays in the second round of the 2014 MLB draft, registered a 12-8 record with a 3.64 ERA and 1.30 WHIP in 24 starts with the Rays Triple-A affiliate Durham Bulls last season. He also won MVP at last year’s All-Star Futures Game after pitching two shutout innings to begin the contest.
