Raonic will not play in U.S. Open due to wrist injury

Canadian tennis star Milos Raonic confirmed on his Instragram account that he has withdrawn from next week’s U.S. Open due to an injury to his left wrist.

“I have tried everything in my power to rehabilitate this injury in time for the US Open… However, the pain is too great and, in consultation with my doctors, I am left with no option but to withdraw from the event,” said Raonic.

“I am crushed to miss this event and a chance to play in front of the fantastic New York crowd, but I truly had no other options. I am already back in the gym starting my rehabilitation, and hope to be recovered and back on the court in a matter of a few weeks.”

The 26-year old says his wrist began to flare up after his straight sets loss to France’s Adrian Mannarino in the second round of the Rogers Cup on August 9.

He is currently 11th in men’s ATP rankings.
