Manny Pacquiao is returning to the ring for the first time in a year.

The 39-year old Philippine boxing sensation will face Argentinian welterweight Lucas Matthysse for the WBA welterweight title in Malaysia on July 14th.

“Signed, sealed, and delivered: Proud to officially announce that WBA welterweight world champion Lucas Matthysse will put his title on the line against Manny Pacquiao in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Saturday night July 14 (U.S. time),” said Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya, who is Matthysse’s promoter for the fight.

Pacquiao’s last fight was a unanimous decision loss against Australian Jeff Horn in Brisbane on July 2, 2017.

It will also be his first fight in some time without long time trainer Freddie Roach. He has decided to replace him with his assistant trainer and close friend Buboy Fernandez.

“That’s Manny’s decision. Manny has told me Buboy will be handling the training on this fight,” said Pacquiao’z adviser Michael Koncz

“What’s important to Manny is that he has one voice to listen to in the corner that he trusts, and I guess that’s Buboy for this fight.”

The fight will be officially announced at a press conference in Manila on April 18.
