The Edmonton Oilers have bolstered their defensive core on Thursday.

The team announced that they have acquired veteran defenceman Chris Wideman from the Ottawa Senators in exchange for a conditional 2020 sixth-round draft pick.

The 28-year old, who was selected 100th overall in the 2009 NHL Draft, had spent his entire career with the Senators organization prior to the deal.

Between the Uber controversy and the poor on-ice performance, things haven’t been exactly going his way this season. And for that reason, he welcomes the change of scenery and opportunity to thrive playing with high end talent on the Oilers.

“I’m very excited about the opportunity of playing in Edmonton, and getting a chance to play with some of the guys that are in that lineup. And for a coach who has won a Stanley Cup and been successful in this league for a ton of years. It’s a great opportunity for me personally.” said Wideman.

Wideman has posted two goals, three assists, and a minus-9 rating in 19 games this season.
