Mike Clevinger out multiple months with back injury

By on April 9, 2019

The Cleveland Indians are going to have to get by without one of the key pitchers in their starting rotation.

The team announced that they have placed starter Mike Clevinger on the 10-day injured list with the expectation that he could be sidelined for multiple months due to a “right upper back/Teres major muscle strain”.

Indians manager Terry Francona says it will be six-to-eight weeks before he is able to resume baseball activities let alone be ready to pitch in a major league game.\

The 28-year old right-hander, who is also known by his nickname ‘Sunshine’, is fresh off an impressive start where he allowed 0 runs and just one hit to go along with 10 strikeouts over a span of five innings in a 3-1 win against the Toronto Blue Jays on April 7.

He has posted a 1-0 record, 0.00 ERA, and 0.50 WHIP in two starts this season.
