The clock is ticking for the New York Mets to ink their ace to an extension.

According to reports, Jacob deGrom’s camp is giving the Mets a timeline to work out a long-term extension with their client. If the Mets and deGrom are unable to agree to terms on an extension before the team’s first game of the season vs the Washington Nationals on March 28, they will have to wait until next offseason to continue discussions.

The 30-year old, who will make $17 million in 2019 after avoiding arbitration earlier this offseason, is fresh off his first NL Cy Young Award season where he posted a 10-9 record, 1.70 ERA, 0.91 WHIP, and 269 strikeouts over a span of 32 starts and 217.0 innings pitched in 2018.
