Less than two months away until his highly-anticipated rematch for the WBA (Super), WBC, IBF, IBO, and vacant lineal middleweight titles against Gennady Golovkin on May 5th, Mexican boxer Canelo Alvarez revealed that he recently tested positive for a performance-enhancing drug known as Clenbuterol, which is commonly used by used by people who suffer breathing disorders such as asthma, and also helps with weight loss.

According to Alvarez, he did not knowingly take the substance, and believes that he ingested it by eating contaminated meat between training sessions in Mexico.

In order to prevent this from happening again, he is moving his training camp to the United States and will be there until the fight takes place.

The last fight between Alvarez (49–1–2) and Golovkin (37-0-1), which took place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on September 16, 2017, ended in a controversial split draw, a decision that was heavily criticized by both fans and boxing experts alike.

The May 5th fight will be also be held at T-Mobile Arena.
