Bruins acquire Charlie Coyle from Wild

By on February 21, 2019

The Boston Bruins have gotten themselves a solid third line centre to add to the depth of the team come playoff time.

The team announced Wednesday that they have acquired veteran forward Charlie Coyle from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for centre Ryan Donato and a conditional fifth-round draft pick that could turn into a fourth rounder if the Bruins advance past the first round of the post-season.

Coyle is a Weymouth, Massachusetts native and had spent his entire career with the Wild organization leading up to the trade. The 26-year old, who is in his 7th NHL season, has compiled 10 goals, 18 assists and a plus-1 rating in 60 games so far in 2018/19.

But with Coyle going pointless in his last seven games, and the Wild losing nine of their past 10, it became clear that both sides needed to make a change.

Donato, who was selected 56th overall in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, is playing in his second NHL season. Through 46 career games, he has posted a combined 11 goals and seven assists.
