The Seattle Mariners appear to be in full fire sale mode. The list of players they are hoping to unload includes their star closer Edwin Diaz.

It’s clear their goal is to reap the benefits of dealing him while his value is at an all-time high, and may actually be able to get a great return for him as a couple of NL East teams are in a bidding war for his services.

According to reports, both the Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies have expressed an interest in working out a deal to acquire him.

The 24-year old is coming off a career year where he posted a 1.96 ERA, 0.79 WHIP and an MLB-leading 57 saves in 73 games and 73.1 innings pitched last season. He was selected to his first ever MLB All-Star Game in 2018 and finished 8th in Cy Young Award voting.

If a trade goes through, he will be the second major pitcher the Mariners have unloaded this offseason. Last week, they traded their ace James Paxton to the New York Yankees in exchange for three prospects.
