Journeyman Mat Latos signed a minor league deal with the Blue Jays in the offseason giving the Jays a little bit more depth at the position. Lastos played for both the Washington Nationals and Chicago White Sox last season, appearing in 17 games and recording an ERA on 4.89. Latos went 7-3 last season while only starting 12 games and coming out of the bullpen for the other 5 appearances. Latos was never able to establish himself in the MLB as a good starting pitcher but will be given another chance with the Blue Jays on Friday when they begin their series against the Los Angeles Angels over the weekend.

Latos has earned this opportunity, while the struggling Jays have placed Aaron Sanchez and J.A. Happ on the 10-day DL. Sanchez is dealing with a blister on his throwing hand while Happ is dealing with elbow inflammation.

The Jays are taking on the Red Sox at 12:37 Thursday afternoon, and will get set to take on the Angels with Latos on the mound for Friday.
